Bwera hospital’s assigned government ambulance registration number UG 4191 M Toyota Land cruiser has this morning of 11th May 2022 caught fire on its way to taking the referred patient identified as Asaba Robert, 53 to fort portal regional referral hospital and leaving three people dead.
Out of five people who are reportedly been in the car, 3 people in the patient cabin and two in the navigation compartment, the patient, emergency nurse and attendant, died at the scene while the driver and the second attendant escaped the fore with severe burns and they are receiving medical attention at Kibito Health Centre IV in Bunyangabu.
Rwenzori west police spokesperson who identified the deceased explained more.
“The incident happened along Kasese- Fort Portal road when an ambulance registration number UG 4191 M Toyota Land cruiser belonging to the Ministry of Health and attached to Kasese District Health Services, carrying a patient caught fire. Although Bwera hospital administrator, Juliet Best Bakoko confirmed that their vehicle was in good condition, the fire was suspended to have started around the oxygen tank.
