Several buildings were turned into piles of rubble after the M7.9 quake. The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Department of Emergency Situations of Turkey sent rescuers to extract people from the rubble of collapsed houses. At least 5 people are reported dead.
Three more earthquakes with magnitudes from M6.4 to M6.6 followed up. Several settlements in southern Türkiye were affected with an eight-storey building collapsed in Diyarbakir & buildings levelled in Latakia in Syria.
The country has declared the highest level of alert after strong tremors followed the main earthquakes in 10 provinces.

The historical fortress of Gaziantep was destroyed by a powerful earthquake in Turkey, local media write.
It was located on a mound whose history dates back to the II—III centuries. Scientists suggest that the fortress itself was built during the Roman Empire.
According to the latest information, at least 76 people became victims of the earthquake in Turkey, more than 230 died in Syria.
