Two Black Hawk helicopters of the US Army's 101st Airborne Division collided during a routine training flight near theFortCampbell air base inKentucky. GovernorAndyBeshear said there were"a number of victims"in the serious accident, and a local radio station reported nine deaths.“The status of the crew members are unknown at this time. The command is currently focused on caring for the servicemembers and their families,” Army post Fort Campbell said in a statement.
The accident occurred during a routine training mission.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said “fatalities are expected,” though he provided no specific figures. A local radio station said as many as nine people may have died in the crash.
