Petitions have been launched too. The Puri Jagannath in Odisha says it was looted from Emperor Ranjit.
It was initially "gifted" to the British by 10-year-old king Duleep Singh as part of a peace treaty. The most prominent pushes to have it returned took place in 1947, 1997, 2000 and 2010.
