Some rugby players in Australia plan to boycott their teams coming matches as soon as it is announced that gay pride jerseys will be worn. A reported number of seven players including Josh Aloial, Jason Saab, Christian Tuipulotu, Josh Schuster, Haumole Olakau'atu, Tolu Koula, and Toafofoa Sipley are reported to plan to boycott Australian National Rugby League (NRL)

Sea Eagles Sean Keppie, Kieran Foran, and Reuben Garrick were seen molding the famous sea Eagles one-off jersey that has rainbow stripes and a rainbow collar. The club indicated that they were planning to use it for one match against Sydney Roosters as a gesture to support LGBTQ inclusion in sports.

The idea that was well thought to be a symbol of togetherness and unity has just instead become a center of division and picking sides amongst club players and supporters but the club owner Scott Penn made it clear that there's no way the club is going to drop the gay pride strips.

Meanwhile, Ian Roberts the first high-profile rugby league player to come out as gay in the 1990s was left gutted by the player's decision which made him sad and uncomfortable.

In an interview with Daily Telegraph, he said "I can promise you every young kid on the northern beaches (of Sydney) who are dealing with their sexuality would have heard about this." He added that Homophobia is still a big issue among the players in the country's top competitions.

This action has called so many mixed reactions but many LGBTQ advocates condemned the boycott as the players were branded as homophobic on all social media platforms while religious spectators praised the players and stood in solidarity with them.
