Did you know you can surf internet for free in Uganda without paying any single coin and it doesn't matter if your in the village or Town. These free tips on how to surf internet for free in Uganda might help you in hard times maybe your caught up in a situation were your running low on data but unfortunately all mobile money shops are closed.
UGANDA'S DATA PRICES ARE SO HIGH
If you never knew this, recent studies show that Uganda has the highest data costs in the whole of East Africa if your to compare the average cost of a gigabyte and as user I don't know why they hike prices of slow internet speeds now days but anyways data used to be cheap in Uganda and I remember I could buy a blackberry bundle for UGX1000 on Airtel and MTN and I could surf 3G unlimited internet for day but those good old days are gone.
WHY DATA IS EXPENSIVE IN UGANDA.
Data is very expensive because of the bandwidth scarcity provided by cable connections which makes a large section of internet connections to go through Satellite links which very expensive to our service providers. In addition with high imposed taxes by our government ,This makes our internet service providers like mtn,Africel,Airtel and Lyca hike prices of internet so it's not that these companies are greed for money.
AIRTEL LETS GOOGLE ANYTHING FOR FREE
- Lucky for Airtel users cause if you don't know this Airtel let's you google anything for free in this period let's say you don't have any data on your but you really have question to ask Google!?!!,Go a head type in anything and your answers will be displayed.Lets say you want to know how your favorite team performed today go a head type in Arsenal(Your favorite team) and you'll be able to see results,Fixtures,Team news,Table etc.
- Another way probably is simple and most of you hard core airtel users are familiar with it and that is dialing *175*20# to get your free monthly 20Mbs and they are not a lot but they can help you pass through the night by chatting on WhatsApp and Facebook messenger as long as you won't be downloading videos,Music,Going to YouTube and using of stuff that consume a lot of data You'll be good to go.Also if you subscribed to 4G LTE internet you can get free 1GB at the beginning of the new month
GET FREE MB'S FROM MTN FOR FREE LEGAL
Last year their was a trick when MTN could let you surf internet for free if you had Tidal bundles and Phisphone VPN connected and I don't know the magic their or hack but this was great as you could download movies do everything you want for free but Sad at the beginning of this year this trick could not work anymore.
For now you can download the MYMTN app and get free 500Mbs and whats more cool if you invite a friend you get more 500Mbs which sounds great,Now I don't know the limit but if I've invited my a friends and got 500Mbs.Add it up to the 500Mbs of downloading the app that's a 1GB which of course am using to type this article cause I love free stuff.
How to get free wifi in Uganda
For those around Kampala their is a free wifi(MyUG) which lets you surf internet for free and recently I heard that their is a plan to widen it's coverage to other areas around Kampala.
Also some big restaurants and hotels offer free wifi connections around the country to their customers which is cool but rare in villages.
WORST INTERNET BUNDLES TO BUY IN UGANDA(SLOWEST DATA PLANS)
- The slowest internet bundle is from airtel and africel "Freaky Friday" and I don't know why people love it so much but it is even the slowest data plan on the Market and for Africel atleast but Airtel if your streaming something online or downloading a video,You might even end up frustrated. If you think am lying I know most of you always wait for Friday's to buy cheap data let's say 5Gbs at Ugx6000 but I'm pretty sure most that data I think expires on Monday when you haven't used 60% of it.I'm not saying I don't like the affordability of the data but these companies should also value our money cause their is nothing that annoys an Internet user as slow internet speeds and instead of it making my Friday freaky it just kills all my weekend vibes and moods.
- If you think freaky Friday is slow!!!!Then you have not Tested MTN's work from home bundle. At UGX 2000 you can get a GB valid from 9am to 5pm but trust me I've never even 30% of this 1GB cause of slower speeds and what I've came to realize is that these companies the more they increase data bundles(Mostly through their offers),The more they reduce the speeds of internet. Now this can work for average populations let's say those who are just going to be on social media but people with smart TV's now can't stream anything on Netflix of YouTube cause of slow internet speeds.
5G WAS TESTED IN UGANDA AND RESULTS WHERE GREAT BUT!!!!
Lucky Uganda was the first East African country to have 5G trials where ZTE a Chinese company together with MTN Uganda made trial and results on paper where so much interesting stating that we will get increased speeds and a similar experience of fiber optic cables. And as a gamer I can't wait to have that 5G experience especially when I'm streaming online with my buddies but what annoys is that I don't know what happened to MTN as it is no longer "Everywhere you go" and their networks are poor in Mityana and Mubende,I don't know much about other regions but for those regions I've tested their networks and trust me it is so poor.
And with them Launching 5G officially in the country soon.i think it will be limited in Kampala only cause 5G doesn't work like 4G as it has limitations of capacity and coverage issues and considering how networks are already poor,I don't think their will be a difference in most areas and expect 5G to be accessible by people on tall buildings and big buildings(Arcades and shopping malls maybe).
Out side Kampala that is still questionable cause 5G requires installing of a tower like thing on a building just like you see wifi so I don't see a way MTN or Airtel are going to come to mityana, mubende ,Jinja,Kabale or other regions to waste their time and install something which a very coverage so if your in Kampala your good to go.But as a reminder 4G and 3G are still a failure in most parts of Uganda.
