Although both governments confirmed the incursion of a Democratic Republic of Congo fighter jet into Rwandan airspace on Monday, Congolese authorities insist it was purely accidental.
The Sukhoi-25 jet touched down briefly at Rwanda’s Rubavu Airport before returning to Congo, and was reportedly unarmed.
Congo accuses Rwanda of backing Tutsi-led M23 rebels against the Congolese army and even expelled the Rwandan ambassador last month over the alleged support, although both countries held talks in Angola on Saturday aimed at diffusing tensions between them.
