As prices of condoms take a sharp rise, sex workers among other who mostly use condoms on a daily basis, are adapting to using bread packages as contraceptives because they or neither their clients can afford prices of condoms at the moment.
It is reportedly said that at the moment, a condom is currently being sold between 1$ and 2$ where a bundle of three condoms is equal to what a minimum wage of a domestic worker takes home in Zimbabwe.

“The Zimbabwean Government announced through a gazette last week that the official domestic worker wage is ZW$10,000. Now a pack of condoms today is ZW$12,200! This is what ZANUPF incompetence and corruption has done! A person’s monthly salary is less than a pack of 3 condoms,” writes prominent Zimbabwean journalist Hopewell Chin'ono.
Although it was confirmed to be ineffective, Talking to one 21 years old sex worker from Mutare, third populous city in Zimbabwe she revealed that she started her job at the age of 16 and they are currently using bread packages as a substitute to condoms because they can’t afford them.
In addition, as per Highkay store, Prostitutes in this country are also engaging in barter trade where they are taking vegetables, beans or maize in exchange of pleasure the as the country faces a strong economic challenge.
