ANTIMATTER (WHATS ANTIMATTER, HOW IT’S MADE, LIST OF APPLICATION)
Anti-matter is the opposite of real matter. In modern physics, it’s the matter composed of antiparticles which in layman’s terms antiparticles are subatomic particles with opposite properties of those of real matter.
This material is estimated to be the most expensive substance on earth with a price tag of over USD 62.5 trillion per gram. This is a result of a few technical roadblocks to its productions and storage for a while since its realization in 1930 by Paul Dirac. I won’t go into more physics-related details as our look into anti-matter is, as a result, to show its application in the future
HOW IT’S MADE
To make anti-matter scientists focused on the hydrogen atom which contains one electron and one proton making anti-hydrogen have one anti-electron and one anti-proton hence anti-matter. To achieve these scientists at CERN (European organization for nuclear research) in 1995 used a super collider to create a collision of antiprotons with xenon atoms creating a positron which was electrically attracted to another antiproton, creating anti-hydrogen but in millionths of a second, the anti-matter partial collided with mater annihilating them forming energy.
LISTS OF APPLICATIONS
As with every revolutionary technology on earth, antimatter is proposed to be used for several things ranging from medicine, engineering, energy, and other things which am to list down one by one but will further go into details of the applications episode by episode so as not to overcrowd you with information.
- Engineering. there are many break throw engineering projects proposed due to the properties of anti-matter like anti-gravity and other projects
- Space propulsion/space travel: Same as energy application the energy produced by antimatter colliding with matter can be directed used in generally space travel
- Energy applications: Due to the property of production of energy when antimatter collides with real energy as the particles get destroyed
- Medical applications: The first application was of course one of medicine big paradox which is curing cancer due to its unique properties which I will go into in the second episode concerning antimatter applications with medicine. positron emission tomography, basically scientists are trying to use anti-matter to reveal the process of the body at work.
